To do for you:1. Download Coursera app2. Sign up for University of Calgary's free "Indigenous Canada" course.3. Finish the course.4. Suddenly understand what all the "fuss" is about. The lecturers are great, material is well done for anyone, including me that had near zero background. It's a pretty quick course that you can take on your phone while you do dishes or prep supper. No excuses! (I'm still embedded in white privilege but I KNOW why there should not be a pipeline across that reserve and why FSIN doesn't want the Gov to have their kids in foster care and and etc etc. I'm no longer confused. It makes sense now that I have knowledge) I didn't realize that I'd only posted this to my personal FB so I'm sharing wider.I've been focused on the I in BIPOC over the past year, taking online classes at my day job, this U of C course, and in-person classes that are infuriating (the injustice!) But also so uncomfortable because white fragility is real, yo. I'm pushing through it because my discomfort ain't shit compared to the daily garbage that BIPOC deal with. Following "my" POC kiddo into a store and watching the staff watch HIM but not my white kid, that ain't right and is the racism that happens every day that is death by 1000 cuts. Reading @thepetiteknitter has been wonderful at opening my narrow mind. I hit myself in the dumbass face reading her story because I'll bet I've been the insulting ignorant white woman. I know she doesn't have to put out the intense emotional labour to educate me, but I am so appreciative to be learning so that I can stop being a dumbass. I now have @laylafsaad "Me and White Supremacy" to work through because this work? It's important for me and you to do. Among many other things, Truth and Reconciliation in Canada had 94 Calls To Action. Which ones are you acting on? And which ones am I?.It takes so little for us WW to read and NOT flip to the defensive. There IS only one side to racism, and it is horrifying. Take a deep breath and embrace the wider picture. It's not ok to keep being a jerk once your community has pointed out that things need to change. So, let's work to change. #NoCookiesForRacists
